RACHEL HORSFALL

On Friday, 25 September at 9.45pm, Rachel Horsfall passed away peacefully at Duart House where she had been living for several weeks.

Her funeral will be held at Beth Shan Funeral Home in Hastings, corner of Maraekakaho and Orchard Roads, Stortford Lodge, at 10.30am, Friday, 2nd October.

Following the Christian Community Funeral Service, memories and addresses will be shared and live-streamed for those family and friends unable to attend.

Afterwards, refreshments will be provided at 3 Lovat Street, Havelock North.

Rachel (weaving tutor) and her husband Peter (woodwork tutor) were long-time members of the staff of Emerson College, [Forest Row, Sussex, UK] founded by Francis Edmunds in the early 1960s. 

Emerson College drew many young people from around the world, including NZers (many from Hawkes Bay) to its Foundation Year in Anthroposophy.

Festival appreciation 

I would like to convey my warm appreciation to the preparation group for the Spring Festival celebration last Sunday evening. 

Festivals bring the moment in time to our consciousness, allowing that moment to continue to live within us as we go about our daily lives.

Festivals nourish us on so many levels with those elements so intrinsic as sustenance for the soul and for the physical body, light – sometimes carried by the candle, beauty as expressed in the aesthetically prepared space (and yes, even down to the ironed silks), and the content, appropriate and thought-provoking, along with the duration, not too long but just right.

Thank you for an inspired festival evening of fellowship and joyful participation.

Room Hire

The Committee have recast the Room Hire page with an offer to start-up groups and two schedules for discounted rates for long sequences and/or longer sessions.

Newsletter Notices

Quite a few people have said that they were unable to open the last Newsletter email link.

I thought I had followed my usual procedure, so I am not yet sure what has happened. 

In any case you can always (?) read the Newsletters online by going to www.Anthrohb.nz  then to the 'News' tab where you will find the NL for the last 6 months or more.

I compile each Newsletter through the week as a webpage on www.Anthrohb.nz  so that it is ready to be ‘published’ (which means ‘available’ to anyone browsing the website) by Friday morning.  The email with the link is separate – it simply tells you that the next Newsletter is there for you to read.

I've had a fairly challenging week with, first, my mobile phone ‘crashing’  and having to be replaced; and then, second, having a few octagenerian senior moments, -- making me realize that things need to change.

When my phone died, everything on it it was suddenly unavailable == so that's downsizing stage 301 all at once.  Buying and setting up a new phone without data from the previous phone, has been a quite challenging and time-consuming activity, which has meant that my other tasks have been neglected.

It has become clear to me that I must be passing on the tasks that  I'm doing for the committee.  

I was on the NZ Anthroposophical Society Council for 16  years, and have been on the local Hawkes Bay committee twice, about 9 years in total.  I have enjoyed the experiences, working with people, helping to foster Anthroposophy and ensure there is a functioning Centre for Anthroposophy in Hastings, but now I know that the time has come when I must  hand things  over and move on.

Below are tasks that I am currently doing that need to be taken over, as I no longer have the energy and focus to continue. 

• Committee member;
• Newsletter Editor;
• Treasurer;
• Website manager;
• Room hire booking coordinator.

These do not need to be done by one person.

It would be wonderful if 4 or 5 people could find some time in their busy lives for some community service and take over or share a task.....

I can then explain what the various tasks entail, or at least how I do them.
